Alex Idonije `16 signed his letter of intent for Davidson College on Wednesday, November 17. Idonije was recruited by Davidson to join their Track and Field program. Prior to making his decision he was considering West Point, Marquette, University of Chicago, UMass, Butler, Bucknell, and Dartmouth.
Idonije said, “I chose Davidson because I think there's a great combination of academics and D1 athletics. When I visited I loved how learning came first and the teachers were really invested in their students. Athletically, the coaches already had a plan for me to be successful at the collegiate level.” While attending Davidson Idonije plans on majoring in physics with an economics minor. In college Idonije is “really excited to learn about things that I'm interested in and also immerse myself in a diverse environment while competing in a sport I love.”
Last spring Idonije was the Wisconsin D3 Triple Jump State Champion with a jump of 44’ 6.5”. His personal record for Triple Jump is 44’ 7.5”. While triple jump is his specialty Idonije also competes in long jump, high jump, and relays if needed.
Davidson is a Division I college located in Davidson, North Carolina. As of 2015 their total enrollment was around 1,770 students. This is not the first time that Davidson successfully recruited a student athlete from Wayland. Jenna Ptaschinski `10 attended Davidson and excelled in their volleyball program.
