Students, Teachers Honored at Trailways Banquet

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Valedictorian Emily Luytan and Salutatorian Madison Jewell were honored at the Southern Trailways Conference Honors Banquet at Kestrel Ridge Golf Club in Columbus, Wis.

The event, hosted by Rio High School Principal Dana Tait, gave the athletics conference an opportunity to recognize the academic excellence of some of the top students in the 21 schools that compose the Trailways Conference.

Each student chosen to be honored at the event was allowed to select one "Significant Educator" to honor in turn. Luytan selected Andrew Borneman, Wayland's English Department Chair and Coordinator of Faculty and Curriculum Development. Jewell chose to honor Dr. Keely Lake H`12, Wayland's Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Program and Latin and Greek teacher.
