Ms. Anna Stern, a history teacher at Wayland Academy, was named one of 100 teachers in Wisconsin to earn a Teacher Fellowship from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. The Fellowship granted both Ms. Stern and Wayland Academy an award of $6,000.
The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, philanthropist and businessman, in 1990. To date, the foundation has awarded $11.5 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and schools. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future,” Kohl said.
Among the essays Ms. Stern wrote for the Fellowship Application, she was asked how she incorporated student ideas into her teaching. She cited the creation of classes focused on Sub-Saharan Africa and social change as the result of conversations with Wayland students.
Ms. Stern received her award at a celebration hosted by the Herb Kohl Foundation on April 23, 2017 in Waupun, WI.
